Tips from Monday, March 2, 2009

The Small Business tips today will be about the sales side of getting to know your customers.

  1. The first step in getting to know your customers is communication. Ask the right questions. Listen to the answers.
  2. What do you need to know about your customers? What do they need? Who's your target? Individuals? Businesses? Location? Etc.
  3. Constantly measure customer satisfaction. Mailers, phone calls, paper & internet surveys, focus groups, http://search.twitter.com/
  4. The foundation of all selling is that people must like you, trust you and want to listen to you.

Daily Overview: Communication is key. Be likable and be willing to change your approach or even your product/service to meet needs.

I post small business tips on my Twitter account each day, Monday through Friday. This is a reposting of those tips.

David Slatter says:

In this economy it is even more important to take care of your current customers- remember your competitors are looking for new business and that means trying to win over your customers. So many companies have cut back their staff levels and are running in maintenance mode, but you really need to dedicate the resources to communicate with your customers so that you get an early warning if there is anything going wrong with the relationship. Take the time to do a quick customer satisfaction check-in, as formal or informal as it needs to be, but just do something.
