Did
you know that the average American is exposed to about 3000 ads a
day? This seems like an outrageous statistic, but advertisements are
pretty much unavoidable these days. This is especially the case since
online marketing is now in the picture. How many times have you gone
on a website and just ignored all of the ads that popped up? I bet
you don’t even realize you are doing this. This is why there is
so much that goes along with online marketing. As a business owner
trying to advertise your company, you need to have something that is
going to stand out from the rest. This is especially the case for
small businesses. Online marketing is a lot of work, more than one
would imagine.
First,
you must determine who you are going to target. Are you going to
target nationally or locally? What type of people does your business
relate to? Then, you must find places on the Internet where you can
put your ads. Most of the time this costs money, so figuring out how
much you are willing to spend on online marketing is a huge factor.
This is because you don’t want to spend more money on online
marketing than you will make from the consumers who see your ads. You
have to make sure it is just enough to bring consumers in while still
making profit after the cost of advertising.
The
next step is to get your target audience interested in what you are
selling. After this happens, you must make sure that the rest of your
online marketing strategy will get the consumer to make the purchase
and come back again. Doing this requires a great deal of work under
any circumstances, but especially with online marketing and in the
development of your online storefront—your website.
Creating
a website is a must. This way the consumer can see what your company
is all about and can get a feel for the type of business it is. This
can make or break a business. If someone has never visited your
business before and views the website, this could be the deciding
factor as to whether or not they are interested in doing business
with your company. The website should be informative, look
professional and load quickly. You only have 20 seconds to catch
someone’s attention before they surf away, so make the most of
it. There should also be contact information—either a formal
contact page or the contact information somewhere on the homepage.
Either way, make it easy for your customers to reach you. Finally,
the website should be developed with search engines in mind to make
sure it appears as high on search engines' results pages as possible.
Yes,
all of this is a lot of work, but today more than ever it is very
important to use the Internet to get your company’s name out
before the public. That means it’s also very important work,
too. The Internet is everywhere. You can't expect to compete as a
small business today without taking advantage of the online marketing
tools it makes possible.
