Chamber Leadership in the Community

Where do leaders come from?  Who has the responsibility for leadership development in Mount Prospect?  Where will future Chamber leaders be found?

There are more than 1,000 leadership development programs in the United States. The time has come for the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce to take the lead and establish such a program for our community.  The goals would be:

Identify and bring together men and women of Mount Prospect who welcome the opportunity to expand their involvement in community affairs and are willing to assume leadership positions.

Enhance the participant’s knowledge of and commitment to the greater Mount Prospect area in order to make their involvement in community affairs more effective.

Foster networking by forming friendships that will benefit the professional and volunteer careers of the participants.

Understand forces and trends affecting community development. Stimulate a common understanding among the various social and economic groups of these forces and trends, and enhance the ability of these groups to work together for the advancement of the greater Mount Prospect area.

Promote active involvement by the participants in a wide range of civic and community affairs.

Facilitate communications through the exchange of viewpoints and varied experiences among all participants in the programs, thereby expanding communications among the most active and involved members of the community.

The Mission of the Leadership Forum

The Mount Prospect Leadership Forum would be a program designed to inspire a new generation of men and women to assume leadership roles in our community. It would challenge and prepare individuals from diverse backgrounds to become influential in our community’s future.

Program Overview

The Mount Prospect Leadership Forum would be an 11-month program dedicated to providing participants with an understanding of our community’s history, diversity, justice system, politics, government, economy, educational system, human services and health care. Participants would also be involved in addressing the needs of our community through a hands-on service project.

The program year might consist of one half-day per month (August-June) with a full day retreat in November. The year would end in June with an evening graduation. Various perspectives are presented through the use of expert panelists, tours of facilities, demonstrations and simulation activities.

The program is supported by tuitions, contributions from area organizations and local businesses, local governmental bodies and the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce. The tuition fee is to be determined later, but each participant is expected to personally pay the first portion of it to encourage personal dedication to the program.  Scholarships could be made available for the balance or their employer might be willing to incur this tuition cost.

So, future leaders of Mount Prospect will come from the Mount Prospect Chamber Leadership Forum.  Leaders, whom the Chamber members will help, encourage, nurture, and mentor.  Leaders that will ultimately become friends of the Chamber.

So if you’d like to see this program started or would like to support it, stand up and be counted today. Call us at 847-398-6616.
