now
become
an annual event.
“I just want to thank all
the participants, businesses and restaurants
,” said Awards Director Robert Koren of Northwest Community Hospital.
A
portion of the proceeds will benefit Northwest Suburban United Way, an
organization that improves the lives of those in need by mobilizing
the caring and financial power of communities
.
Race Director
Christine Matheis of Northwest Community Hospital
and Koren began planning the race with
Jim Uszler
, executive director of the Mount Pr
ospect Chamber of Commerce, about one year ago.
“We thought it would be a good idea to keep employees healthy and really ge
t the businesses involved,” Matheis said
. “In a 5K race, you get a sense of personal accomplishment
,
and people love to feel good and set a goal for themselves.”
Officer Friendly Bill Roscop of the Mount Prospect Police Department
announced runners’ names as they reached the finish line. Participants enjoyed the

Center
’s landscaping and race route
, he said.
“Despite
the fact that they’re running in relatively warm weather and running
hard, I saw so many smiles,” he said. “We’re going to see a lot more
people and positive activities going on in the center.”
