The American Recovery and Reinvestment (ARRA) of 2009—The Stimulus Package—contains a number of new or expanded tax benefits on expenditures to reduce energy use or create new energy sources. The IRS is encouraging individuals and businesses to see whether they are eligible for any of these new energy tax provisions.

As a small business owner, you know well enough that your taxes are going to be rising—possibly dramatically—over the next year or so. It is in the stimulus, and the budget, but have you paid attention to what is going to happen as soon as Obama passes his cap and trade legislation. It is supposed to lower carbon emissions, and it might. It will also be a massive tax on energy, one that you won’t be able to escape.

Tomorrow Americans go to the polls and by their vote, we will see if we will be going the way of Socialist Europe. Obama has promised us high energy bills, high labor costs and high taxes in the name of fairness. Is that what we really want? We find out tomorrow.

October First of this year was hailed as Energy Independence Day. The seminal event was the Congress allowing the various drilling bans to lapse. So the bans dropped away and now we can “drill, baby, drill” and become energy independent and an economic powerhouse once more, right? Not if the Radical Environmentalists and their lawyers have anything to say about it.

In the midst of the worst financial crisis in living memory, Harry Reid, Majority Leader of the US Senate, quietly tried to derail the push for energy independence, one of the few things what will actually help our economy, by slipping a prohibition against shale oil exploration into another bill. Reid tried, he failed and we name names.
